Here is the complete essay included in the Criterion Blu-ray. It is not incredibly informative about the film but does paint the picture for why this monster was created and the tone you should expect to experience throughout.

I wasn't overly impressed with this essay as it only touches the surface of why Godzilla is so important in Japanese, American, and movie culture. It is mainly to provide context to the film you are about to watch, and at that it succeeds.
